Are you still using petroleum1 or silicone2 based lubricants?

All Brake OEM's and Hardware Manufacturers now specify "Real Synthetic" moly based lubricants with high concentrations of solids!

Here is why they do!

Oil base lube (no solids).bmp (363054 bytes)

Boundary lube (with solids).bmp (306774 bytes)

Petroleum or Silicone Based (Non-Boundary) Synthetic Based (Boundary Type)

GWR's Pastelub 2400tm is the only "Real Synthetic" Dry-Film, Boundary Lubricant available in the U.S.A.... although many other manufactures claim their products are also.

Yes, but I use black moly grease!

1 If a manufacturer makes a brake lubricant with a mineral oil, paraffin oil or other petroleum base it is restricted to an upper working temperature limit of only a little more than that of it's base, even though it may contain graphite, aluminum, or moly. This is especially true of those products that contain large concentrations of organic bases and very little particulate solids. (Typically the top selling, brand name brake lubricants on the market today). Please check the ingredients on the various labels of the brake lubricants you currently use, you will see that petroleum or one of it's derivatives plays a large part in their make-up... contrary to what the labels imply.
(ie: Synthetic Caliper Lube, Synthetic Brake Grease, etc.)

Well, what about Silicone, isn't it high temp?

2 Clear Dow 111 Silicone (the most commonly used silicone brake lubricant) has a working temperature range of -40 to +400ºF and tends to loose it's paste consistency above that. It is primarily used for lubricating plastic and rubber components (not metal to metal). Above its volatilizing temperature, it tends to rapidly decompose... leaving a silica (sand/grit) residue on surfaces it's applied to. Even when Silicone is mixed with other products, fillers or solids, the limited temperature range and contamination factors are still a big problem.
